You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. As it turns out, Lucky...Aint so lucky. Where to begin with this amazing, resilient dog? Lucky is a beautiful Lab mix?, about 1-1.5 years old, who has a friendly, sweet nature despite what she endured. She was beaten so badly she was given several fractured ribs, then, they shot her multiple times with buckshot! Not only did she survive that abuse and torture, she survived starvation, infection, and a severe eye injury from being shot that left her blind in one eye and is causing her to need to lose her left eye. Her only stroke of luck came when she found herself in a shelter, but thats no place for a dog long term. Lucky is lucky that she has a sweet and charming personality, and she managed to stay off the euthanization list - but there she stayed - for months and months. All of her play buddies found homes or rescues somewhere else, but there she stayed. Until one day, she got orders to pack her bags! She was heading to Minnesota! She arrived very sick, however. Very sick. She was treated for three infections (kennel cough, larva migration into her lungs, and Ehrlichia). She also had an abscess tooth pulled, and will be getting her eye removed shortly. In spite of the incredible pain and horrific abuse, she is a very social, active, loving dog who can find the fun and joy in absolutely anything and everything. Lucky is what we call a permanent puppy, meaning she thinks she is a puppy and she behaves like a full grown puppy who doesn't plan to grow upeverything is a fun adventure to her, everything is fun to explore, put in her mouth, and play with. In Lucky's eyes, the whole world is awesome and she wants to see everything and play with everyone! She loves to play with kids so much, She was out in her foster homes back yard one day and heard the kids getting out of school across the street. She loves kids so much, she jumped the fence, ran over to the school, ran INSIDE the school, and started playing with all the kids. The kids just covered her with hugs & kisses, they loved her! Due to her puppy tendencies, the rescue went above & beyond to make sure Lucky was not overlooked for adoption, she went through 2 weeks of intense puppy training. Trainers came to visit her twice a day for an hour and she has made incredible strides to being a big girl. Her doctor brags about this SMART girl to anybody he meets, in his eyes Ive never seen a dog make such a huge transformation in such little time. She does have a tendency to "overlove" the kids and will kiss them to the ground or wiggle them over by accident so is best in a home with older kids. Sadly, due to her past, she has developed physical & emotional scars. She is on a daily anti anxiety medication to help with her separation anxiety. We firmly believe this will be discontinued when she finds that special family to give her the life she deserves (and lengthy time to become comfortable). She would prefer either to be a solo dog in the home, although meeting other dogs out and about is fine, or to be with a male dog who doesn't mind letting her be top dog.
